Grupo IDESA's first plant was founded in Puebla in 1966, but due to the growth of the city between the 70s and 90s, Grupo IDESA, putting population safety and caring for the environment first, decided to emigrate this unit operations to Tlaxcala and Coatzacoalcos.
In the mid-nineties, a new stage of growth began for the Division, and in 1997 the Unit was launched.
It has a total area of 75 hectares, where the ethanolamine and ethylene glycol plants currently operate, as well as the sodium cyanide plant operated by Cyplus IDESA, a strategic association between Grupo IDESA and Evonik International Holding B.V.
This began operations in 1979, being the second Petrochemical Division site in the Xaloztoc municipality with the Glicoles Mexicanos petrochemical plants, S.A. de C.V. (GLIMEX) with a 113,000 ethylene glycols tons per year capacity; and Poliestireno y Derivados, S.A. de C.V. (POLIDESA) with a 20,000 tons per year crystal and impact polystyrene resin plant.
Currently, the Tlaxcala Industrial Unit covers an 48 hectares area, with two Petrochemical Division plants, one for the expandable polystyrene production from NOVIDESA and the other for the phthalic anhydride production from Síntesis Orgánicas. It also has a storage terminal for chemical and petroleum products for the group's Logistics Division, as well as a plant for the construction systems manufacture for the Application Business Division.
The Irapuato petrochemical complex dates back to the 1980s when the idea of installing an alkylamine production plant was born, a unique project in Mexico. This way, the company Petramin, S.A. de C.V., built and started the operation of the petrochemical plant in 1983.
Subsequently, this company and its assets were acquired by Grupo IDESA in 2011, so the site became part of the Petrochemical Division, giving rise to the Irapuato Industrial Unit, where in addition to operating the alkylamine plant, the Center of IDESA Technological Development works.
Thanks to the application of our Environmental, Safety and Hygiene Management System and the efficiency of our processes, we have received various certifications that guarantee the safety and integrity of our products and facilities.
